DR SUSAN ENGEL

Susan Engel is an Associate Professor in Politics and International Studies at the University of Wollongong. She is a committed teacher and her key research interests include: multilateral development finance in the Global South, development cooperation between nations and the role of emotions in sanitation and microfinance programs. Key works include a recent co-authored book on The Global Architecture of Multilateral Development Banks: A System of Debt or Development? (Routledge, 2021), a 2010 book on the Word Bank in Southeast Asia, and over 30 journal articles and chapters.

Susan is a scholar-activist who has worked with a number of NGOs on projects, including ACFID, Jubilee Australia and PSI, the international federation of public service trade unions. She has volunteered with indigo foundation, a not-for-profit community development NGO since 2002. Susan also worked in the government, community, and aid sectors before becoming an academic.
