At COP26 in Glasgow in 2021, British civil society paved the way for the Clean Energy Transition Partnership (CETP) – an international agreement to end public financing of fossil fuels. As Australia’s export finance watchdog, Jubilee Australia led the campaign for Australia to join this international agreement. Building on our evidence base, we brought international and domestic civil society voices together with allies in government to secure Australia’s signing of the CETP at COP29 in Dubai. We followed up this success with a year-long campaign to ensure the implementation of this agreement was thorough and effective, culminating in its legislation via fossil fuel exclusion clauses in the Albanese government’s Future Made in Australia program. To date, it is one of the few examples of tangible fossil fuel phase out policies to be won in Australia.
