Jubilee Australia Research Centre’s legal case against the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) is ongoing and we’re continuing our fight for the public’s right to know even the most basic information about the climate and biodiversity impacts of loans or investments backed by taxpayer dollars.
“The climate and biodiversity crises are doing serious damage to the environment, to human rights, and to the economies of communities and nations across the globe. In 2023, we filed legal proceedings against the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) over what we believe is the public’s right to even very basic transparency. Government agencies erode the public’s trust in them when they do not provide to the public, particularly affected communities, straightforward information on the environmental impacts of taxpayer funded projects. We do not believe any taxpayer money should be used to prop up fossil fuels or other harmful projects, but at minimum governments must be transparent about the impacts of their financing decisions.”
