Justice for Bougainville

By donating to the Justice for Bougainville campaign you will be supporting Jubilee Australia to work closely with our local partners on Bougainville to fight for an environmental clean-up of the Panguna mine. You can read more about the Panguna mine here.

The copper-gold mine, which was operated by a subsidiary of Rio Tinto from 1972 to 1989 is one of the most heinous examples of criminal behaviour by an Australian company overseas. Not only did it lead to a civil war which killed up to 10% of Bougainville’s population, it also polluted one of the main rivers on the island which many local communities relied on for their lives.

We have reason to believe that the environmental damage goes beyond the visible impacts that the local communities are reporting, which is why we want to work together with our local partners to establish the scale and severity of the environmental damage. This will help the local communities in their fight for an environmental clean-up.

We need your help to make sure that we have the funds to do so. Our goal is to raise $10,000 by 30 June. Please consider chipping in so we can work with our local partners to fight for justice for the impacted communities. Will you make a gift of $5, $25, $50 or whatever you can afford to help us meet this goal?
