Protect the Sepik River

In Papua New Guinea, PanAust’s proposed Frieda River mine is so large that it would be the size of the entire PNG mining industry combined. But Jubilee Australia and our partners fear the biggest mine in PNG's history would put at risk the Sepik River - one of the most important aquatic ecosystems in our region.

We continue to work closely with our local partner in PNG, Project Sepik, to seek to protect the river and the communities living on it. You can read more about the project here.

Next year will be crucial in the campaign for the Sepik River. Already, the wheels are in motion for the next stage towards the mine going ahead. In November 2019, an environmental impact statement was released, one of the key processes required prior to approval.

Your support will help us:

- Work with our partners to analyse the Environmental Impact Statement and to communicate any flaws or deficiencies to communities and decision-makers in PNG and the Sepik.

- Provide much needed research, support and other assistance to help Project Sepik continue to grow and flourish as an organisation.

- Work with partners in Australia to develop a ‘Save the Sepik’ campaign to educate Australians about the threat to the region’s vital waterways and rainforests.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 by 31 December.

Every contribution, no matter how small, helps us continue our work.
