Australia is a key source of transition minerals needed for producing technological components of the new post-carbon age. This report examines the reality of Australia’s transition mineral reserves, the impacts that extraction could have, and the policy choices that can be taken now to both reduce the demand for these minerals and ensure that any extraction that does take place is both sustainable and respectful of the rights of Indigenous communities.
