DR ADELE WEBB - RESEARCH COMMITTEE MEMBER

DR ADELE WEBB

Adele Webb is a Research Fellow in Democracy and Citizen Engagement at the University of Canberra’s Centre for Deliberative Democracy and Global Governance. She holds a PhD in Government and International Relations from the University of Sydney and MSc in Political Sociology from the London School of Economics. As a political sociologist, Adele researches how citizens think about democracy, and how subjectivities and the political unconscious affect their engagement with democratic processes. Adele’s most recent project studied how democracy is imagined in the Philippines and how foreign intervention and colonial histories have shaped the political engagement of citizens. In Canberra, Adele is involved with the "Connecting to Parliament” project, which aims to link constituents with their elected officials and involve more Australians in the democratic process. She also teaches in the Masters of Public Policy program. Adele worked for almost a decade in the International Development sector and has a long history of involvement with Jubilee Australia, including five years as Executive Director (2008 - 2012). She maintains an interest in activism around global justice, and has provided research and consultancy for the UNSCAP and Griffith Asia Institute.
